The Early Test can detect HIV infection within a week after exposure!
After becoming HIV infected it typically takes up to 3 months to develop a
positive antibody test result and in rare cases it may take longer. During this
“window period” when the HIV antibody test is negative, a different type of
test – a type of ‘viral load’ test – can detect the presence of HIV.
*This type of test is not typically offered at HIV testing sites and health
insurance does not usually cover viral load tests for HIV screening.
Advantages of Knowing your HIV Status Sooner:
- Getting your results quicker will help decrease the anxiety you feel while
waiting for test results.
- Knowing your status sooner can help you make more responsible
decisions to protect you and your partners.
- There are treatment advantages for those who are identified soon after
infection. You may qualify for one of our many cutting-edge research studies.
- If you wish, we can notify at-risk partners. If notified in time, they can
potentially avoid HIV infection!
- Studies have proven that the earlier HIV is diagnosed, the better the
long-term prognosis and quality of life.
